In August of 2016, three United States flag retirement bins
were placed in Carson City by members of the Children of the American
Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution under the C.A.R.’s
state project Honoring Old Glory.
Since then, more than 2,000 unserviceable flags in need of
retirement have been deposited into these bins by citizens of Carson City.
On Friday, November 10, at 3:00 p.m. Carson City will join
members of the C.A.R. and the DAR in a community flag retirement ceremony to be
held on the grounds of Fuji Park.
“We hope the community residents who have taken their time to
ensure these flags are properly retired will join us as we pay our last respect
to these flags and retire them through a pyre,” said Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell.
Carson City residents are reminded that flag
retirement bins remain at the Carson City Library, City Hall and the Carson
Flag Store. Please use these flag
retirement bins to ensure your American flag is properly retired.
